Just wanted to let everyone know that yesterday (Wed) was a pretty good day. No chemo yesterday, just fluids and rest. Noah is doing great. He was up playing last night. He seems to be in very good spirits and health. He’s still a little tentative to move around with his Infusaport, but we’re getting used to that.
Last night, Noah got unhooked from his IV feed! Now, we can’t keep him still.
He was up playing this morning from about 9:30 until noon. He’s taking a nap right now. His hemoglobin is a little down so he tires more easily, but it was past nap time anyway.
We have a meeting with the Clinic nurse today to go over a slideshow that will give us a little more information about when we go home. We found out that we may go home today!!! We’re not really prepared for that – we haven’t cleaned our house yet – but we’ll deal with that. We’ve got two dogs at home, Annie and Max. Annie is a 3 pound Maltese that both Dillon (our older son) and Noah love to death. Max is a 40 pound Basset Hound. He’s my dog. Unfortunately, we’re going to have to find a new home for Max. He’s sweet but he’s a clod and he has a tendency to be a little rough (not that he means to be). I don’t want see him go, but it’s the best thing for Noah.
Noah just got the other two medicines of the chemo today, 5-FU and Vincristine. These are given by IV injection and are fairly easy on the system. The effects will be pretty much like the Cisplatin, but at least we know what to expect.
Again, I want to thank everyone who has given us support and prayer. We would not be the way we are without it. We have accepted that this is a part of our life for now. We could either feel sorry for ourselves or suck it up and fight it. We chose to fight.
So when we go home, we try to get back to a somewhat normal life. I’m going back to work on Monday…yay.
Well…here’s an update. We will probably go home tomorrow now. Noah isn’t drinking as much as the doctors would like. We’re still kinda up in the air. We’ll see. Either today or tomorrow, it’s all the same. We get to go home soon and start on the road to recovery. We are looking at chemo through the end of May and then another CT scan to see if the tumor has shrunk enough to take it out. If so, surgery will remove it and then we have 2 more rounds of chemo. We could be done by August, praise God!!!
We’ll keep you updated.
God Bless,
Doug
