We finally got to come back home yesterday. As usual, the orders were written at about noon and we got out at about three. I never knew that the nurses had to type everything up. I thought it was just something they had stored in the system that they printed out.
Had a bit of trouble finding all of the prescriptions last night, but I eventually got all of them…all FIVE of them. I guess it could be worse. I know there are people who have to have a lot more. We’re a little nervous about being home. We’ve had an unbelievable team of nurses helping us out for the past week. Now its all us. We’ll learn though…
We’ve got a home health nurse coming today to show us how to give Noah some injections to get his counts back up quicker. His CBC (complete blood count) dropped from 6000 to 2000 yesterday. That’s a little faster than they thought it would drop, but the doctors didn’t seem worried about it.
Our oldest son, Dillon, was happy to see us, but he is understandably a little angry and jealous. We’re trying to be understanding, but it’s hard sometimes…especially when he’s being as needy as he has been. We’ll all work through it. We’ve got to remember that he’s been away from mommy and daddy for over a week. We got to see him while we were still in the hospital, but it’s nothing like being home.
Again, the support that we’ve been receiving is breath-taking. Some folks from church cooked us dinner last night. It was the first meal that didn’t come from a bag that we’ve had together in over a week. My company has been astonishingly understanding in regards to my absences. I’ve met people who get all kinds of flak from their jobs about being out. I know that we are blessed beyond compare.
For those who wonder where our ability to cope with this comes from…well, I’ll tell you.
We have faith that our God is a God who saves and heals.

It’s actually late Saturday now. Today was pretty good. Noah still seems to still be adjusting to being home. He is very clingy and a little fussy. Dillon is getting better about everything. He and I went to the mall today and hung out shopping. It was good to spend some time together. We’ve had a few visitors today, but Noah seems to still be doing well. Everyone who walks in hears me yelling “SQUIRTS!!!!” to let them know to use the hand sanitizer.
Well, getting ready to head off to bed. Hopefully we can make it through the night with no vomiting.
God Bless,
Doug
