Latest News…

Wow, it’s been a crazy week.  I haven’t really had time to post…I’ve been trying to get caught up on homework.  Here are some updates:

Noah was supposed to start his 2nd round of chemo on this past Tuesday, but Kosair’s didn’t have a bed for him, so he ended up going in on Wednesday.  We ended up not getting the 2nd round started this week for a couple of reasons…

First, Noah’s diaper rash has turned into some type of yeast infection that has blistered.  They didn’t want to start him on the Cisplatin with that, since he would be in pain every time he urinated. We would’ve been changing diapers every 30 minutes, rather than the regular 2 hours while he’s on chemo.

Second, Noah’s got an infection in his intestinal tract called C. Diff that has been causing some pretty bad diahrrea.  We’re treating that with Flagyl…yeah, apparently the pharmacy hadn’t heard of it before either.  :)   This should take care of the infection in about 10 days, but they’re going to **try** to start him back on chemo next Tuesday.

One last bit of EXTREMELY AWESOME NEWS!!!!! If anyone remembers the AFP explanation (click here), this will sound good.  Noah’s initial AFP level back in the beginning of March was at about 8,100.  As of March 28, his AFP levels are at 2,500!!!! Even the doctors are stunned.  Basically what this means is that the tumor has been getting its butt kicked by the chemo.  So, Crystal and I have talked and decided that we are going to “gently” encourage our medical team to do another CT scan after this 2nd round of chemo rather than the 4th like the protocol calls for.  If we can get this over with earlier than expected…all the better for all of us.

Be sure, we believe that this is nothing other than the result of all of the prayer and support that you guys have been giving us.  God has been continually blessing us through this entire ordeal – just like He promised He would – and we can do nothing but give Him the glory and praise.  I’ve been meaning to write a post explaining our faith and what it means to us…maybe I should do that soon.  But we believe that God is active in our lives and in the world.   Noah has always been a miracle baby, why would God stop now, right?

Okay…LONG post.  I’ll try to keep the frequency of posts up.  I think I’m almost all the way caught up on my homework, which will free up quite a bit of time.  Thank you and bless all of you who have been with us through this trial.  Your support has been paramount to our strength.  Round 2 should start on Tuesday…I’ll keep you updated.

God Bless,

Doug

PS…I have to give a “shout out” to Coit who cleaned our ductwork at no cost (also, thanks to Micah for setting this up).  It’s awesome to see a corporation do something like this…
